PUPPY & BEGINNERS
Puppy & Beginner Dog Training (6 Weeks)
Every well-trained dog starts with a knowledgeable owner.
My Puppy & Beginner Program is designed to teach you how to communicate with your dog in a way they understand. My goal isn't simply to teach your dog commands—it's to teach you how to become your dog's teacher, leader, and trusted partner. Together, we'll build a strong foundation that will last a lifetime.
I believe one of the most important parts of training is creating a strong bond between dog and handler. Through positive, practical training exercises, you'll learn how to guide your dog with confidence while building trust, respect, and clear communication. I take a hands-on approach, demonstrating each exercise, coaching you as you work with your own dog, and supporting you every step of the way.
Training should be enjoyable for both ends of the leash. We'll have fun, celebrate progress, and start a journey together that strengthens the relationship between you and your dog.
To ensure everyone receives plenty of individual attention, I keep my Puppy & Beginner classes small, with a maximum of 6 dogs per group.
Classes are held indoors at Temenos Athletics, 1155 St. Paul Street, Kelowna, providing a comfortable, controlled environment where both dogs and owners can learn without the added distractions of the outdoors.
If you're interested in joining a class, feel free to get in touch. If the current group is full, I'll happily add you to the waiting list and start a new class when there is enough interest.
Proof of your dog's current vaccinations is required before attending the first class.
What You and Your Dog Will Learn
Throughout the course, we'll build the essential skills every dog needs for everyday life, including:
Responding to their name and giving you their attention.Building a reliable recall (Come) for safety and confidence.Foundation cues such as Sit, Down, Stay, Wait, and Leave It.Walking politely on a loose leash and developing good leash manners.Learning to focus on you, even with other dogs and people nearby.Developing calm behaviour and self-control while working around the other dogs in class.Positive, controlled socialization by learning to remain relaxed and engaged with you in the presence of the other puppies and their handlers.Strengthening confidence, engagement, and, most importantly, the bond between you and your dog.
One aspect that makes my classes a little different is that the puppies do not play together during the course. While play is a wonderful reward, I want your puppy to learn that the most valuable connection is with you. By removing the expectation of play each week, we can build stronger focus, engagement, and communication. At the final class, the puppies have an opportunity to enjoy some supervised play together as a reward for all their hard work.
By the end of the course, you'll have the knowledge and practical skills to continue training with your dog confidently, giving you the tools to build on everything you've learned together.
